形態特徵

Trees to 15 m tall; branchlets deep brown, whitish pubescent, glabrescent; winter buds ovoid, scales whitish pubescent outside.
Leaves thickly chartaceous, elliptic, ovate to obovate, 2-5 cm long, 1-2 cm broad, apex acute to obtuse, base rounded to obtuse, oblique, simply serrate, short scabrous along veins on both surfaces, lateral veins 10-13 pairs; petioles 2-6 mm long, whitish pubescent.
Flowers 2-6 in axillary clusters; pedicels ca. 1 mm long, glabrous; calyx lobes elliptic-ovate, red, glabrous on both surfaces, margins slightly ciliate, apex obtuse to slightly emarginate, 1-veined; stamens with red anthers, filaments persistent.
Fruit broadly ovate to broadly elliptic, 0.9-1.2 cm long, 6-8 mm broad, apex notched, short stipitate.

分布

台灣 : In forests and thickets at low altitudes along streams and on mountain ridges thoughout the island.
世界 : China, Korea, Japan and Ryukyus.
